Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that causes abnormal stress to the joints and can result in stiffness and pain. Its cause is unknown. Scoliosis is more common in females and begins in childhood with roughly two percent of the population being effected. If it is detected early, scoliosis treatment can prevent it from worsening over time. Therefore, it is important to get children checked if there is the slightest concern it may be present.

In some instances, osteoporosis can cause the vertebrae to bend and shape the curve causing excessive scoliosis or even kyphosis, a rounding of the back. If not treated properly, severe back pain and deformity can occur.
